23. Time to Fly.

So, it was time to go.
Leave.
Cambodia.
I had read the books:
The Road of Lost Innocence by Somaly Mam.
Terrify No More
and
Good News About Injustice
both by Gary A. Haugen.
And Still I Rise by Doreen Lawrence.
Goodbye, Dearest Holly by Kevin Wells.
Madeleine by Kate McCann.
Each of these books had a profound effect on me.
The face of Sarah Payne in the papers had burned my heart and soul and I had great admiration for the work her mother, Sara Payne, had done with Sarah’s Law.
God had chosen me.
Broken my heart.
My friends prayed for me.
Had prayed for me for a year or more.
I stayed the weekend at Phil’s home in Brixton and woke up early to lug my suitcase down the hill, past The Fridge, past Coldharbour Lane which held heart-piercing memories of the Swedish 17 year old I had fallen in love with – Amelia.
I had written to her.
Told her I was, inspired by her, setting off to Cambodia to work with the magic elephants and save them from the monsters.
Next stop…
Cambodia!
