55. Mission Possible 2.

I’d stayed in touch with Srey Leak.

The girl I’d let my guard down with during my first few weeks in Cambodia.

The Riverhouse girl.

She was working in a restaurant as a waitress but wanted to be a hairdresser.

I took her to Open Arms.

Open Arms is an amazing Christian NGO run by an Australian couple who had devoted their lives to helping the underprivileged young women of Cambodia.

The training centre in the Russian Market area is state of the art.

Extremely modern.

The young women train in hair and make up and all aspects of beauty.

The owner, Sandra Wade, a mother hen figure who takes the girls under her huge, cosy wings and nurtures them like daughters, like princesses.

Srey Leak signs on.

I pay her a salary to attend – again $120 per month – not a liveable wage in the West but an average income in Cambodia.

Mission accomplished.

Now I feel God really has called me to Cambodia to help these young women….

So how, 10 years later, would I end up a homeless, jobless, penniless crystal meth addict left alone to rot and die on the pitiless streets of Phnom Penh?

Where would it all go wrong?
