63. Footstep Applause.

Year 10.
Jan.
3 nights no sleep.
Golden Sorya Mall.
I sit outside Home Food.
Opposite the Heart of Darkness.
3am.
Anoy, a young woman (srey in Khmer) walks past.
Her heels clip clip on the sidewalk, echoing loud in the otherwise still, silent night.
Every few minutes the door of the Heart of Darkness swings open as late night party goers leave the club.
As the door swings open the loud beat of the base blasts out, quieting again as the door swings shut.
My body involuntarily bursts into dance, my arms swinging up to the rhythm.
As the door closes, the base quietens, my body relaxes.
A customer at Home Food watches me, smirking.
Laughing at my ice-wide eyes and junkie jive.
Anoy’s heels clip clip past, all I see are her long perfect legs as I think to myself another round of applause for my performance.
The high heel clip another technique Mr. Coppola uses to encourage me, the actor, in his original work of art – his ground breaking reality show hybrid of live cinema.
Another brilliant technique by the king of Golden Sorya Mall – Mr. C.
Mr. Crystal Meth Psychosis.
