69. Upstairs (cont'd)

It’s Liza’s turn to suck the straw.
I’m ever intrigued by the length of the straw.
It’s a telescopic 3 in length.
Bending and twisting.
It’s a work of art.
Even the colors match.
White and pink.
The rectangular plastic lighter is passed from one girl to the hand of the next.
Liza.
She purses her red lipstick lips around the white end of the spider crab leg.
With one hand she holds the plastic bottle, still in the centre of our circle.
It takes a few flicks to get the tiny flame.
She holds the flame under the glass bowl, white and black brown smudges on the inside of the glass.
A millimetre of brown liquid begins to vaporize and Liza inhales, blowing out the white smoke in a thick cloud.
Her mouth circles as the remainder comes out in smoke rings.
Smoke still coming from her mouth, she twists the plastic bottle towards me and with the other hand swings the telescopic straw so it’s inches from my lips.
