32. Bong K

I’ve known Bong K a while.
I remember, when Andrew was arrested, I gave Bong K the 200 USD I owed him for ‘phones’ i.e. drugs.
Cos Bong K was collecting his debts.
Then, Srey Da tells me I’ve been conned.
The $200 I gave to Bong K wasn’t going to Andrew in jail at all.
Furious, I goes to Sorya Mall.
Sits down.
Calls Bong K.
Demands he return the $200.
$200 my Christian friends back home had donated to pay off my debts.
Bong K walks across the mall, mobile in the air.
Speak to Andrew he goes.
I takes the phone.
Its Andrew.
Says he only trusts one man in the whole world – Bong K. Trusts him like a brother.
Fuk.
I was lied to.
Srey Da lied to me and I believed her.
Now I felt like an idiot.
Bong K is a Chinese Khmer gangster, 50 years old.
Someone to respect.
I stand.
Put my hands in front of my chest as if to pray….
And bow.
I’m sorry, Bong K, I goes.
Bong K graciously forgives.
