37. Living Stones

I get an email from the ‘counsellor’ from New Life warning me about my ‘sin’ and suggesting I be nowhere near women.
And he cc’s in 5 of my friends.
A private, supposedly ‘confidential’ conversation between me and him has become public.
I’m furious.
He’s broken confidentiality.
That can’t be allowed.
Surely breaking confidentiality is a no no in the world of therapy.
The only time a therapist, by law, can break confidentiality is when there’s a risk of harming himself or others.
I research him.
I find out he’s not a trained counsellor at all.
In fact, he should not even be offering a ‘confidential’ service – obviously.
I speak to my real counsellor, back in England.
I decide to forgive.
Forgive the fake counsellor and forgive the pastor for prejudging me.
But I don’t go back to New Life.
The accusation pierces a deep old wound going back to my childhood – rejection.
Anyway, church is not just on Sundays.
The true meaning of the word church, back when the bible was written, meant the people.
As Peter says:

God does not dwell in temples built by human hands, but we are living stones, being built into a spiritual house…

We are the church!
The people!
Wherever I am, Jesus is.
Wherever we are, there is the church.
The church is the organic, living, breathing body of Christ.
Every single person in the world who believes in and loves Jesus – we are the church.
The true church.
Living stones!
We are the church!
